Chemically-modified Nanopore Electrode

Description
Glass nanopores, with embedded Pt electrodes, are synthesized with pore orifices as small as 5 nm. The surfaces of the pores are chemically modified with ligands that selectively bind analytes, resulting in an electrical signal at the Pt electrode.

Implications
This research is focused on developing the nanopore electrode as chemical, biochemical, and particle sensors, and for drug delivery on nanometer lengthscales.
