Metal matrix micro and nanocomposite coatings

Description
The accompanying figure shows a zinc-nickel metal matrix coating with embedded microscopic alumina particles on a steel substrate.

Implications
Such coatings can be fabricated using a wide variety of compositions and particle types and sizes in order to achieve the desired coating properties, such as wear and scratch resistance or corrosion resistance.
