Plasmonic nano-Antenna

Description
Light concentrates through the center aperture by surface plasmon effects.

By concentrating light to a scale much smaller than the wavelength and placing molecular species at the focal point of these antennae, we can achieve strong interactions between the electromagnetic field and molecules of interest.

Implications
Molecules placed in the center aperture can be detected with orders-of-magnitude improved sensitivity over other detection technologies.

Small scale optical circuits and modulators are also enabled by these techniques.
